Why Global South?

The Global South faces some of the most urgent development and climate challenges of our time — with climate change acting as a threat multiplier. Yet, this region is not just a site of vulnerability; it is also a wellspring of innovation. Many of the most effective, scalable, and contextually grounded solutions are emerging from within the Global South itself.

India’s Digital Public Infrastructure has enabled financial inclusion at a population scale, while national missions on green hydrogen, electric mobility, and affordable housing demonstrate how bold, low-cost policy innovation can drive systemic change. In Africa, South Africa’s Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) is pioneering a collaborative, equity-centered model for moving from coal to clean energy. In Latin America, Brazil’s city of Curitiba stands as a global benchmark in sustainable urban planning—seamlessly integrating public transport, green spaces, and waste management for both environmental and social gains. In South Asia, Bangladesh has developed innovative, locally grounded infrastructure solutions that build resilience to rising sea levels and frequent flooding.

The Global South is not a passive recipient of solutions. It is a dynamic engine of innovation. From policy to technology to community-driven models, the region is generating bold, scalable responses to the world’s toughest challenges. At the heart of our work is a commitment to accelerating these homegrown solutions — amplifying their impact, supporting their implementation, and ensuring they shape the global development agenda.
